All of us who use or occupy any building have a right to expect to be safely protected should a fire break out. Sadly this is not always the case and tragedy occurs, causing death or serious injury. Fire doors are part of a building’s passive fire protection system, an essential requirement for all public buildings, offices and factories.
A poorly fitted fire door may only provide minimal protection and in an attempt to raise the standard of fire doors the British Woodwork Federation created the BWF CERTIFIRE Fire Door and Doorset Scheme aiming to increase the standards of fire doors across the supply chain.
Woodbase Joiners is proud to be an approved BWF CERTIFIRE Licenced Door Processor – check our credentials at http://www.bwf.org.uk/suppliers/479/woodbase-joiners-limited
A licensed fire door processor is a joinery company, which takes a door certificated under the BWF-CERTIFIRE Scheme or a certificated door blank, and makes adjustments to it according to the scope of the manufacturer’s fire test data sheet. This may include resizing, re-lipping fire doors or blanks, cutting vision panels, manufacturing frames, or fitting other items, such as letter plates and spy holes and making up doorsets, whilst maintaining the certification of the fire door.
By using a company approved under BWF CERTIFIRE Fire Door & Doorset Scheme you will ensure the fire doors fitted will give you the best protection.
Purpose built fire doors are designed to withstand fires for as long as possible and have safety features which can save lives.
Legislation requires fire doors on commercial and non-domestic buildings; these are to ensure the fire door must withstand fire for at least the specified length of time.
